6 Easy Steps for Long Lasting Makeup

Hello Everyone!
I want to thank everyone for all of the support on my first YouTube video! I received lots of great feedback and really look forward to doing more videos! From now on I will always post on my blog what I am talking about in my video and where to buy the products!!

If you missed the video, I talked about 6 easy steps to add to your makeup routine that will help your makeup last through out the day!

These are the six steps I thought were most important:

1. Primer
This is the most important step in helping your makeup last longer. There are lots of different kinds of primers that do lots of different things! Most brands will have a primer that they recommend. I use "Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro". I bought this at CVS for less than $8.00. When you are looking for a primer, make sure the package says "prolongs foundation wear" because there are some that will be made to specifically illuminate or fill in pores. You can also purchase this product at ULTA.

2. Set Foundation with a Powder
This step is especially important for people with oily skin. This will "set" the foundation and keep it from moving around. It will also soak up an excess oil on the skin. I use a loose powder but pressed powder is also really great! Most brands will sell this as well! I use the "Palladio Rice Powder" which you can also find at ULTA. I purchased this for $4.99.

3. Eye Shadow Primer
Eye shadow primer basically does the same thing that face powder does with your foundation. It is going to prolong the eyeshadow and keep it from creasing. Make sure to really smooth it out or it will have the opposite effect and cause it to crease! I use "Urban Decay Primer Potion" but I also mentioned "Too Faced Shadow Insurance" and "NYX HD Eyeshadow Primer".  All three of these are great!

4. Waterproof Products
Waterproof eyeliner and mascara are really great options for long wearing makeup products! Most Brands will have a "waterproof" version of their eyeliners and mascaras. I LOVE Urban Decay's "24/7 Waterproof Liquid liner" in black. I don't have a favorite waterproof mascara and I don't just want to recommend something specific just for the sake of recommending something but I would try any "Covergirl" mascaras! Those are always wonderful.

5.Cream Products
For this step I recommended layering cream and powder products. For example, laying on a nice cream blush and then running a powder right over. This will have the same effect of the pressed powder and foundation. Powder products really cling to creams and this will increase the staying power of the product! The two blushes I used as examples in the video are the "Dream Bouncy Blushes" by Maybelline and "Baked Blush" From E.L.F. I really love both of these products!

6. Lip Stains
Lip stains will stain your lips and last for much longer than creamy lipsticks or lip gloss. Again, there are so many different brands that offer lip stains. The one I mentioned in my video is the "NYC Smooch Proof 16hour Lip Stain". I really like these. They are super easy to apply and they last a really long time!

I would love to hear products that you all have tried and loved also! If you want to know any alternatives or other places to purchase these products let me know in the comments below! Looking forward to hearing what you all have to say!

E.L.F Haul/ First Impressions: Eye Shadows

Hello Everyone!
I finally received my E.L.F online order and thought I would share my thoughts with you! I purchased quite a bit because the website had some awesome sales! I figured I would split this up into a couple of different posts so you could read what interests you! I am starting this series off with all of the eye shadows I purchased.

I have tried a few E.L.F products like blushes, the eyeliner, and some brushes (if you read my "Target Haul" a few days ago you know what I am talking about). I have heard great things about this brand so I decided to take the plunge and order a bunch of products. This brand is really inexpensive which is why I am able to order a lot of products and test them out. I am a sucker for eye shadow palettes and for $5.00 or less I literally can't turn them down!

The eyeshadow palette above was only $1.00! It is the "Brightening Eye Color: Luxe". This palette is a lot brighter and more shimmery than I thought it would be! I am actually very glad that it is brighter! I think these shades are gorgeous!! When I opened it up the pinky/coral shade blew me away! This palette is rich and the shadows are really pigmented. I do have another one of these quads and it is called "Drama". I am not a big fan of that palette. They eye shadows were super flaky and dull. I do not know the staying power of these shadows yet but so far I am happy with this purchase!

Next is the mix and match quad. Basically you purchase the palette and then you pick four shades that you like. It all comes separately and then you put it together. I am happy with these colors I chose. They are all a bit darker (especially the two gold shades) than I thought they would be but they are still really nice colors.

These are the four swatches for this palette. As you can see the colors are all super pigmented. The color names in order from this swatch are "Taupe", "Peach Fuzz", "Navy", and "Aubergine". The total cost for this palette is $5.00. It is more than the first but definitely worth it!

Next are the two 32 color palettes that I purchased. I bought one with 32 neutral eye shadows and one with 32 bright eye shadows. At first glance I am really drawn to the bright colors. It has some unusual colors that you don't see in many palettes.

The palette to the right is the "Bright" palette and below the image are some random swatches of some shades. I love that this palette has a hot pink, a yellow, a matte green, a shimmery coral and yet still has some really beautiful neutral colors. I am really happy with this purchase so far. I think it will be a fun palette to play with! I hope these shadows have the lasting power that I have found in the Studio Blushes from E.L.F. If so, this might become one of my favorite palettes!

To the left we have the 32 neutral palette and below some random swatches of colors. I think I will only like this palette not love it.. I sat down and really looked at this palette and it seems that a lot of the shades are extremely similar. The swatches seemed nice and some of the colors are really pretty but my "Naked" palette is everything I want and more in a neutral palette and I think it will be hard for this to compare. I will say that if you do not have the "Naked" palette and are experimenting in the neutral world of eye shadows this would be an awesome palette to purchase. It is only $5.00 and you will really get to experiment with lots of shades! I have not used this yet so I really can't make any judgements but this is my first impression.

Overall, I am really happy with the purchases I have made!! I will do an official review of these products after I use them for a couple of weeks and really put them to the test!

I will post all of the face products I purchased in tomorrow's blog post and then I will do all of the tools and other random items in the next post.

Let me know what you think if you own any of these colors/palettes. I look forward to hearing your feedback!

Stay tuned for part two of this post!

I hope this was helpful!

Hello Everyone!

I ventured out to ULTA today and found this beautiful eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay. I know this is not a knew palette but I have not scene this one any where in person. It is called the "Sustainable Shadow Box" and the case is made from sustainable bamboo. When I glanced over at it I was impressed. The detail on the case is really pretty and the majority of the shadows are bright colors. I have Urban Decay's "Naked Palette" which I love so I figured I would give some of their brighter colors a try.

The set I purchased came with a small "Primer Potion", which I already know that I love, and a brush. The brush that comes with it is small and cheap. I won't use it for eyeshadow but maybe for eye liner or brows or something. The palette itself has 10 shadows in it. I would say that shadows are half the size of the "Naked Palette" shadows. The only shadow that I have already from this set is the color "half baked" which is in the first naked palette. That doesn't bother me too much because I love that color and use it quite often.

Here are the swatches:

The Shade names are (from left to right):
1.YDK
2. Flipside
3. Grifter
4. Uzi
5. Twice Baked
Row two:
1. Midnight Cowboy Rides Again
2. Flash
3. Oil Slick
4. Kiddie Pool
5. Half Baked

I really like all of the colors in this palette. I think I will really enjoy "Flipside", "Twice Baked", and "Flash" the most. All of the colors seem to be super pigmented. The only thing I don't love is that a few of the colors seem to have huge pieces of glitter in them as you can see in the swatches above. I am not a huge fan of glitter but I will give it a shot and see what I think. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. It was on sale at ULTA for $18.00 which is about half of the actual price. Once I wear all of the colors I will do a review!

Let me know what you think of Urban Decay shadows in the comment section below!

FOTD: Falcons Game

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are all heading out to restaurants and bars or getting ready at home for the Falcons Football game. I wanted to post a little something that will inspire you to change up your look for this fun filled day of football.

Today I am wearing a solid black winged eyeliner and a bright red lip (for those of you who don't know the falcons colors are red and black). The best part of the look is that you can get it for under $20.00!

Eyeliner: ELF
- You can find this product in Target or online $1.00

Blush: Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush
- You can find this product in any drugstore or at ULTA $7.99

Lip Colors: NYC Smooch proof 16hour Lip Stain
-Found in Target or Online $4.49

OR

NYX Matte Lip Cream
-You can find this product at ULTA or Online $5.99

I love this look, its a classic beautiful look that works perfectly for today's game! Also, you do not have to use both of these lip products. The lip stain is a bit lighter and more subtle. The lip cream is a pure bright red. They both have awesome pigmentation and both last a long time on the lip. Just wanted to give you all a couple of options that I recommend.

Try something new with your makeup look today! You never know, you just may find something new and fun that you love! Happy Sunday everyone!!

Small Target HAUL

 Hello Everyone!
I stopped by Target on my way home today and found a few goodies. I purchased all of these items for under $30!!

Elf Eye Shadow Brush: $1.00
Elf Bronzing Brush: $1.00
Elf Liquid Eyeliner: $1.00
Altoids: $.99
Elf Eye Lashes $1.00
Small Silver Bucket: $1.00
NYC 16 hr Lip Stain: $4.49 each X 4= $18.00

These are the four shades I bought. I actually originally purchased the "Forever Fuchsia" and I put it on in the car. I liked it so much I ran back inside and purchased the other three shades! They are extremely pigmented for a stain. The colors are fun and bright! I really enjoy the color range that is offered as well. This will be my first time using NYC lip products and it is my first day wearing them so I can not judge the "16 hr" claim but I have a feeling I won't be disappointed.

I am really excited to try these E.L.F products as well. I have a huge E.L.F order that is coming in so I will do a HAUL on that as soon as I get it. I have only used a few of their products but everything I have tried has been wonderful and how can you beat $1.00 products?? The brushes seem to be pretty good quality and I am super excited to try the eyeliner because I keep hearing people rave about it!

The little silver bucket is for my lip products (or whatever else I can use it for). I have a really small five drawer plastic container that is beginning to overflow so I figured this could be a cute little gadget to hold some lip products!! Again.. $1.00!!!

Also, (random statement) my drink in the corner is from the Starbucks that is in Target. I tried passion tea lemonade. I have never had this before and all I can say is YUM. I would definitely recommend this drink!

Let me know what products you would like to see next!

Bronzers

Hello Everyone!
I hope you all have had a great week so far! Today I am going to talk about my favorite bronzers! I have been trying a lot of different bronzers lately. I personally enjoy a matte bronzer. I use them to contour my cheek bones, the sides of my nose, and under my chin to define my jaw line. I also use them to liven up my skin, especially in the winter time!

Some of you makeup guru's out there might think I am crazy but I JUST purchased "Too Faced: Chocolate Soleil" this past December. I have only heard great things about this bronzer and after trying it myself I can not believe I have waited so long to buy it! This bronzer is $29 dollars at ULTA. I have the smaller size that came in the set shown below. This was the holiday set for the face that Sephora had in stores this year!  It is a super smooth powder and I feel that it has a beautiful natural look if applied gently! It also smells delicious!! I am really fair and as you can tell below it does not turn me orange. This is one product that I know I will be purchasing again when I run out.

 Chocolate Soleil

P.S. Sets (such as the one shown to the left) are a really awesome and inexpensive way to test new products! The holiday sets this year was awesome! I can review some products from those sets if you want to see that as well!

The next bronzer I want to talk about is "NYC: Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder". The shade I have is 720A Sunny (I think thats the only shade it comes in). I bought this from Walmart and I believe it was only $2.99!! This is a GREAT drugstore bronzer. It is rich in color and is very easy to use. I feel like these two bronzers are very similar in texture and shade. The NYC shade is only a tad bit lighter. Overall I have been very happy with  both of them!

 NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer

If you prefer more of a shimmer and want me to review some shimmery bronzers let me know!!

Comment below and tell me what your favorite bronzers are! If you have tried either of these let me know what you think!!

Palladio Rice Powder

Hello!
Today I want to talk about a product I discovered from ULTA. It is called Palladio Rice Powder. It is a loose powder that I use to set my foundation.

I LOVE this product. I think that it has awesome coverage for a powder. I could use this instead of foundation if I was going for a natural look. I also really like this product because I think it prevents my skin from being oily. I personally do not like the "dewy" look on an every day basis. So if you are one who enjoys the "dewy" look, this product might not be for you! Plus its only $4.99!!! Such an awesome price.

It has a strange texture. It seems to be thicker than the average loose face powder. It almost seems like the same texture as flour.

A HUGE downfall for me is that it only comes in three different shades and they are all for fairly light skin. It could NOT be something I keep in my professional makeup kit because of this.

Also I read this on the website for Palladio Rice Powder "The powder of rice has been used for centuries in the ancient art of Ayurveda, a holistic healing practice. It is used as a poultice that soothes inflamed acne and skin ulcerations. It has been used by Asian women in their facial makeup and to wash their skin since the 16th century. It is considered an emollient rich skin treatment."

I think this is super cool!!!

In the pictures below you can see that the powder is thick enough to cover up the redness and uneven color on my arm. However, it does not completely cover up my freckles which I find will allow you to still have a natural feel.

As loose face powder goes, this has definitely been the best I have tried! Let me know what you think if you have tried it!

If anyone else has any other lose face powder they recommend comment below and share it with me!!

Have a wonderful weekend! Go Falcons!!!

I hope this was helpful. :)

A little bit about me.

Hello All!

This will be my first official post for this blog!  I am a makeup artist for film and television. I do beauty makeup as well as special effects. I studied at the Make-Up Designory (MUD) in NYC. If any of you are thinking about going to school to become a Makeup Artist I HIGHLY recommend this school.

Anyways, I am currently living in Atlanta and have been  fortunate enough to book enough jobs so that I can do this for a living. I LOVE what I do. I have been a lover of all things makeup for a very long time.

I have recently been doing a lot of studying trying to compare brands so that I can find out what products I like and so I can discover new brands. As I was doing this I thought " I should start a blog, not only will it keep me inspired to learn and grow but I can help other people as well". I was talking to my friends (Melissa Weyn) about the idea and she was like you should call it "Hopefully Helpful" and that is how it began.

I am not going to pretend that I know more than you or anyone else because I don't. I am simply doing this to learn and grow as an artist and I really hope that you can learn something too!

Please feel free to comment whether it is positive or negative to any posts! However please do not hate on anyone else who comments. That is no fun. Please share with me and other readers your experience on any of these products that I mention.

Please remember, these are MY opinions. You may have great success on products I dislike or may hate products I love and that is perfectly okay!

Thank you all for reading and I hope to have my first review up tomorrow!

Hope Ferguson
